American Fried Rice, American or Thai food?

"Khao Pad American" or "American Fried Rice"

Some people might think this dish is popular in the USA. The truth is this dish was made up by Thai cooks during the Vietnam war era, to give US service men something the Thais thought they would want to eat while over here in Thailand during breaks.

Does this explanation make more sense to you?

It’s almost like the Thai cooks put all the things they thought of when they thought of American food, and fried them up with rice. And while this isn’t so much ‘Authentic Thai Food’, it’s become a popular dish 40 years later with kids.

CAKO CUPCAKES, a cupcake which is so much more than a cupcake… it’s passion!

Hi guys! Welcome you all to Chowing with Chol, Food of the moment.

Today, I’d like to ask you what's kind of food that helps you get out from sorrow?

Cheese? Chocolate? Cookies? Fruit? Brownies? Soda? Candies?

Mike, Academy of Art student thinks that sugar or chocolate is kind of a chemical that make people feel happy.

So, if you are in a sad mode today, I would like to help you to be happy and get through whatever you are facing to by introducing you something sweet like "CAKO CUPCAKES", a cupcake which is so much more than a cupcake… it’s passion!

At "CAKO CUPCAKE", apart from the very tasty and cute cupcakes, the decoration here is very well designed too. The cupcakes wall is the most interesting part that attracts customers to come inside the shop and get at least one cupcake back home.
But the taste of their handmade cup cakes is also as good as their look.

Here, there’re many menus for you to choose: Chocolate mint, Coconut, Vanilla, S’more’s, Caramel… Ouh a lot! But all of them are only just $3 each. The most popular cupcake here is “The Red Valvet”. The cake has half chocolate, half vanilla and the frosting is cream cheese.

I think there’s nothing can explain it better than you go there and try one by yourself.

"The House”, the place where East-meets-West comes alive.

Hi guys,

As we already go out and taste many kinds of food, today i would like to introduce you another kind of food which is not belong to any nations.

It has been a while that “Fusion Food” becomes the new trend of eating. But do you know what is the fusion food?

Honeybee, Academy of Arts student said the fusion food is not really traditional. It's mixed with unoriginal ingredients and cooked in slightly different styles.

For me, “Fusion Cuisine” is a kind of food that is not boring at all because we never know how the taste would be. And with its look or decoration, I’m sure you will pick one and put it into your mouth! Fusin food will make you feel excited every time when you going to taste it too.

What about you? What do you think it is?

The House" is a place where Asia meets America. It is the mix between Asian and American food or that we usually called nowadays “Asian Fusion Food”. The food and flavors, especially its presentation of each dish is a work of art. I discovered this place when my cousin took me to celebrate my birthday last year. Ever since, it becomes one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco.

Some of you might heard so much about how good the food was at "The House", but you have to try it by yourself. The first impressions that you might get are that it might look very busy and so small. But as we know, only the yummiest restaurant in SF is this busy. The food here is the mix between Asian and American.

At “The House” the price is very reasonable compared to its tasty food. The price should be around $30 per person.

To start off, let’s try Caesar salad with crispy scallops”. Another dish I recommend you seriously is Deep-fried salmon roll with Chinese hot mustard The salmon roll itself is ok but with the sauce, it is delicious! Actually, the entrees here are so good. You should try them all.

For main dish, I recommend the pork chops and sea bass because it is basically what I eat. “Niman ranch pork chop with pomegranate currant sauce, the flavor is perfectly ripe, and it's definitely not overkill. Mashed potatoes were a bit too oily but it was a great complement. When the pork chops and the sauce are mixed was to die for.

Grilled sea bass with garlic ginger soy”, the sea bass will melt in your mouth. The garlic ginger soy dipping sauce is awesome. The sweat peas that came with it are nice and crispy. With these dishes, I’m definitely sure, you wont have any leftovers back homes.

Service is good. The food and service seem a little rushed. My recommendations is don’t forget to make reservations ahead because the space is extremely limited and be sure to arrive early to look for parking.

So if you want to take someone on a date or parents to dinner or while you have a limited budget, I recommend you "The House”.

“GEISHA FLOAT”, the mouthwatering dessert in Bay Area.

After we have been tasted many kind of food and drinks for a few weeks, this week, we will talk about a dessert. Have you ever heard about “GEISHA FLOAT”, the mouthwatering dessert in Bay Area from “Café Hana”? If not, I’ll tell you.

“Café Hana” is a small café and sells patisseries, coffee, chocolate and soft ice cream. It may be a little hard to find since it is tucked deep inside the mall in Japan town. But what I love the most about Café Hana is “GEISHA FLOAT”.

The first time I know “GEISHA FLOAT” was when my cousin brought me to Japan Town after one week arriving in San Francisco. We had Shabu-Shabu, we were so full but we didn’t give up to have a dessert to complete the meal. We went to “Cafe Hana”. And my cousin told me I would love “GEISHA FLOAT”. Ever since, it had all my favorite things! I come here for one thing and one thing only. I come here for the geisha float.

“GEISHA FLOAT” is the combination of a scoop of green tea ice cream, green tea slush, some sweet red beans (azuki beans), cubes of mochi, all topped off with whipped cream. Imagine, getting through the top 4 layers is absolutely bliss, isn’t?

Oh! You can also change the ice cream favor of “GEISHA FLOAT” too if you don’t like green tea favor. At $5, it's definitely a good deal for what you get. Recommended!

Apart form “GEISHA FLOAT”, the lychee drink was pretty good also and the green tea slush by itself is refreshing also.

I don't know if it's not very popular here in USA but I always see frozen yogurt and never soft ice cream. We, as Asian loves this thing so if you want to try some desserts that different from dessert you usually taste in SF, try “GEISHA FLOAT”.

You can get the coupon to get the discount from them by checking out http://www.sfjapantown.org There’s also special promotion.
